Building ‘water smart’ can unlock housing delivery in water-scarce areas: Using water more efficiently in new homes to support growth, resilience and long-term sustainability

England is facing growing water shortages. If nothing is done, nearly 5 billion litres of additional water per day will be needed by 2050. This gap cannot be closed in the short to medium term through reservoirs and other major supply schemes such as reservoirs alone. To continue delivering new homes, we need to build water smart.
