One-Pager: Integrated Water Management

Integrated Water Management: at the heart of the Water Smart Communities concept

What is Integrated Water Management (IWM)?

  • A holistic approach to managing land and water – developing solutions that address water supply, wastewater capacity, flooding and water pollution - together.

  • Working collaboratively across organisations and sectors – public, housing, water, infrastructure, environment - to achieve shared and multiple outcomes such as enriching public spaces, reducing flooding, and enabling development.

  • Integrating grey infrastructure, nature-based solutions and community engagement – to achieve multiple benefits for people, the environment and the economy.

  • Working at multiple scales – from individual dwellings and communities through to strategic catchment and regional solutions.
